Sachin
Tendulkar became the first sports person to be conferred Bharat Ratna ,India 's
highest civilian honour. The entire media in India together celebrated the
occasion. " You are an emotion that unite 121 crore people. 121 crore thanks to you Sachin."
Malayala Manorama wrote in its front page editorial. It is 121 crore minus 2.
Justice Markandeya Khatju opposed the move when Sachin's name was first
proposed for Bharat Ratna."By conferring Bharat Ratna to Sachin Tendulkar
you are belittling that honour", said Justice Khatju..I am of the opinion
of Honourable Justice Khatju.
As a
balancing act the Government honoured Dr.CNR Rao, a scientist of international
renown also with Bharat Ratna. The next day the upright and audacious scientist
called the givers of the award "idiots". Expressing the
dissatisfaction in the scientific community over inadequate funding of research
projects, Dr.Rao called politicians "idiots" for giving them so
little. Kudos to you sir.
Demands
are coming from different quarters for Bharat Ratna for their leaders and
mentors. JDU is batting for Dhyan Chand, BJP for Vajpai.
Remember
Jayaprakash Narayan who refused Bharat Ratna in 1977. Injustice was done to him
by conferring him the honour posthumously.
The
Padma awrds are for satisfying the stooges and cronies of the ruling party and
its allies. Bharat Ratna is also going that way if you look at the list of the awardees.
No
wonder if our rulers honour Mukesh Ambani with Bharat Ratna. "Indian banks
wrote off loans worth Rs.100000/ crore during the last 13 years. 'Mr KC Chakraborthy, Deputy
Governor of RBI said on 18th November in Mumbai. Of this 95% are of the
corporates. Why not Bharat Ratna to their representative?
Post Script: If you and I borrow Rs.50000/ from a Bank, have no means to repay and have no security to be attached, we will definitely go behind bars. The Banks, the Governments or the Courts will never touch the corporate crooks. I say this from my thirty six years experience in the Banking Industry.
